The project ARAS is a collaboration between the ensemble Javid Afsari Rad Ensemble and Zarbang.
Javid Afsari Rad Ensemble consists of performers who in Norway are highly profiled in classical, world music and jazz. The ensemble was established by Javid in 2007, originally under the name Rumi Ensemble. Javid grew up in Persia, but has lived in Norway for over 30 years. They play his compositions which are inspired by Persian, Indian and Arabic musical traditions, but also with Alia touch of Western classical music. The ensemble has several record releases and has toured at home and abroad since its inception.
The percussion ensemble Zarbang has toured all over the world. Zarbang combines a staggering variety of rhythms with a multitude of different elements of sound. The repertoire of composed pieces and structured improvisations is both dynamic and meditative, with elements of Sufi and older Persian rhythms, where the frame drum daf is central.
In 2022 they released the album”Aras” on the Norwegian record label Global Sonics.
