The University College Alumni Association (UCAA), in cooperation with Alumni Relations and University Fund, cordially invites Utrecht University alumni to a lecture by Dr. Shirin Ebadi on Thursday the 20th of October 2016.
Shirin Ebadi is a lawyer, former judge and human rights advocate. She was awarded the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote human rights in Persia and, in particular, the rights of women, children, and political prisoners. She is the first Muslim woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, and only the fifth Muslim to receive a Nobel Prize in any field.
According to the Utrecht University's press release, Dr. Ebadi will discuss human rights, women's rights, peace and leadership in relation to the Middle East and Iran in particular, as well as current political affairs in Iran. The evening will also feature contributions from Professor James Kennedy, Dean of University College Utrecht, Professor Antoine Buyse, director of the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights, and Mr. Damon Golriz, lecturer at The Hague University of applied sciences and a fellow of the research group International Peace, Justice and Security. There will be plenty of room for questions and discussion.
Doors will open at 18:30, the lecture will commence at 19:00.
